In this article we are going to discuss a very specific home appliance, the Honeywell AirGenius. We will go over the results of our research as we looked for an air purifier with a permanent filter for a large room. Either of these traits permanent filters or capacity for a large room are easy to find in air purifiers. However, finding both in the same air purifier is more difficult than you might think.
An air purifier with a permanent filter for large room
If you take a look at this link to the National Association of Homebuilders website it shows the average size of different rooms you might find in a new home. We looked at this and determined that in order for an air purifier to treat a large room, it needs to be capable of working in at least 200 square feet.
The next thing we looked for is that the filter was a HEPA filter. This is an industry standard, if the filter isn’t a HEPA filter it’s probably not worth buying. Washable HEPA filters are also fairly common. if the filter is not washable it isn’t too much of a surprise, but something to consider if you will be using your air purifier a lot. As the purifier is working it is continuously collecting dust pollen pet dander and more in the filter. Some filters need to be replaced every 6 months or less depending on how much they are used. If you are continuously needing to order new filters, it can get expensive.
Permanent filters can usually be washed 4 times a year for up to five years according to manufacturers. So it’s not technically a permanent filter but it lasts up to 10 times longer than a filter needing to be replaced every 6 months.
The last thing we looked for in selecting the top air purifier for a large room that has a permanent filter is the brand-name. For some people the brand-name of their home appliances is very important. There is a lot of comfort in knowing that your appliances are high quality and were a good purchase.
After we applied all of these criteria to our searches we came up with three air purifiers that are actually made by the same company. The AirGenius product line by Honeywell. The AirGenius 3, 4 and 5 are all capable of purifying the air in rooms over 200 square feet. This claim is certified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, or AHAM. AHAM certifications on home appliances are recognized by regulatory bodies in the United States, including the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy.
Another great feature of these air purifiers is that they are ENERGY STAR certified. They use about the same amount of electricity as a light bulb. You can expect to see very little difference in your monthly power bill when using an AirGenius air purifier.
There is an optional pre-filter for reducing common household smells and odors. Unfortunately this pre-filter is not washable and may need to be replaced as often as every 3 months. Carbon pre filters like this one do not usually work for more than three or six months at a time.
